Sunshine and Sport in January

Posted by Craig Leverenz on 28 January 2011

2011 is upon us, with January seeing the last ever Tour Down Under for Lance Armstrong. This event spans South Australia from as far north as Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley, down to the McLaren Vale region, through the Adelaide Hills and over to the Murray River.

Lance along with Australia’s own Robbie McEwan were joined by thousands of cyclists in Glenelg at Wigley Reserve (the park across the road for those that don’t know) for his Adelaide Twitter Ride. This is the second year Lance has arranged an impromptu ride, with each of the 4000 or so riders donating $50 towards QLD floods victims.

For a bit of fun, Glenelg hosted the South Australian leg of the Havaianas Thong Challenge on Australia Day. Adelaide’s Favourite Beach was covered in a sea of 443 white oversize floating thongs in the perfect summer’s day.
